History Of The Chevrolet Suburban Ruston LA

Today’s SUVs wouldn’t be around were it not for the forerunner of the segment: the Chevrolet Suburban.

2020 marks the 85th anniversary of the Suburban, making it the longest continuous nameplate on the market. It remains one of the most popular SUVs, proving that its longevity is no instance of circumstance, but rather years of innovation.

Arrival of the Suburban

The first Chevrolet Suburban arrived in 1935. At the time, there were no other vehicles like it on the market. Still, this model would prove to be the progenitor of the SUV segment. Production of the Suburban continued into World War II, with many domestic companies using it as a workhorse to replace traditional trucks while their production was put on hold.

During the 1950s, the fourth generation of the Suburban brought some radical new designs aesthetics. This version of the Suburban more closely resembled the SUVs we have today.

A three-door version of the vehicle was introduced in the late 1960s, with a fourth door being added during the 1970s. This four-door version of the Suburban lasted until the beginning of the 1990s, when Chevrolet added features like anti-lock brakes and an AutoTrac all-wheel-drive system for more capability.

The current generation

The latest version of the Chevrolet Suburban arrived in 2015. A more modern age demanded a more modern Suburban vehicle, so Chevrolet added a whole host of new features, such as a 4G LTE Wi-Fi Hotspot. Engineers also worked to make the cabin quieter than ever.

“While the world has changed significantly, the Suburban is just as relevant today as it was in 1935. The Suburban created the sport utility vehicle – offering unprecedented combination of passenger comfort and cargo capacity,” said Paul Edwards, Chevrolet marketing vice president.

While the world celebrates the 85th anniversary of this legendary vehicle, we at Courtesy Chevrolet Buick GMC Cadillac look forward to a future that looks bright for the Chevrolet Suburban.
