A big SUV needs a powerful engine, and that’s exactly what the 2021 Suburban gives you. You can actually choose from three mighty options. The standard 5.3-liter V8 gets 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque. The optional 6.2-liter V8 delivers 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. There’s also a 3.0-liter Duramax® Turbo-Diesel that makes 277 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. Each engine gives you truck-worthy max towing capabilities of 8,000 pounds or more when properly equipped.

The Suburban may be big and powerful, but it’s also oh-so-smooth and assured on the road. Thanks to the premium Smooth Ride suspension with rear multi-link components, your passengers will rest easy even on bumpy routes. For an especially plush feel, you can upgrade to Magnetic Ride Control and the Four-Corner Air Ride Adaptive Suspension. These systems work together to provide precise steering, optimal traction, and exceptional comfort. The adaptive suspension even lets you adjust the Suburban’s height to gain more ground clearance or make it easier to get in and out.

Exterior design

The 2021 Suburban signals its capability and power with muscular, upscale design. All Suburban models get standard features like 18-inch wheels, heated side mirrors, chromed roof rails, and LED headlamps and taillamps. A hands-free power liftgate comes standard on every trim except the entry-level LS. Nine paint colors are available, including Cherry Red Tintcoat, Iridescent Pearl Tricoat, and Midnight Blue Metallic. The Suburban is highly customizable, too. For example, the RST gives you 22-inch gloss black wheels and a blacked-out grille. The Z71 contributes black assist steps, red tow hooks, and 20-inch wheels with all-terrain tires. On the top-of-the-line High Country, you’ll find a signature grille design and 22-inch Sterling Silver-painted wheels with chrome inserts.
