Chevrolet Silverado History Ruston LA
The Silverado has long been popular among truck enthusiasts, but many don’t know that the truck was introduced in 1999 or that the name Silverado originally appeared as Chevy C/K trim level. The Chevy Silverado has evolved over the years to bring drivers the best in automotive engineering and design.
Early Years
The Silverado was a trim level on the C/K and the Suburban before the truck received its own line. It wasn’t until 1999 that Chevy released the Silverado as the light-duty truck model to replace the C/K. The original Silverado was produced in what’s now referred to as a “classic” body style. It boasted three powerful engines and different bed lengths with the choice between a regular and three-door extended cab. Eventually, the first generation of the Silverado offered a massive 8.1-liter Vortec engine, special edition Intimidator SS trim, and a hybrid in 2004.
Second Generation
Building on the success of the original Silverado, the second generation was introduced in 2007. The new lineup was more powerful than the previous version, and Chevy added high-strength military-grade steel to improve body stiffness and capabilities. It also gave the Silverado new rear springs, hydraulic mounts, and other features.
In addition to winning the “Truck of the Year” award from Motor Trend when the Silverado was first introduced, the truck earned top marks from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The Silverado’s popularity grew even more with its winning combination of toughness and safety.
Third Generation
The third generation aimed to improve performance, quality, and fuel economy. New EcoTec engines were introduced as well as structural changes to improve the frame. A new hydroforming technique added strength to the bed and chassis, while MyLink infotainment kept driver’s connected.
Today
The all-new 2019 Silverado is the latest and greatest generation of its line. The new mixed-material engineering combines durable, light-weight materials with high-strength steel to cut a significant amount of weight. There’s 20 percent more bed volume than the competition, five engine options, and a Z71 Off-Road Package.
The Silverado is built upon years of success to bring you one of the most capable, intelligent trucks ever built. Come and see the cutting-edge 2019 Silverado at Courtesy Chevy Buick GMC Cadillac and schedule a test drive.
